How to clean and care for trophies

Simple care tips for glass, acrylic, metal, resin and timber awards, so they look their best for years.

The golden rule

Start with the gentlest method, a soft dry cloth, and only move to damp cleaning if needed. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cloths on engraved surfaces.

By material

  • Glass and crystal: wipe with a soft, lint free cloth, lightly dampened with water or a mild glass cleaner. Dry and polish gently.
  • Acrylic: use a soft microfibre cloth with a little mild soapy water. Avoid abrasive cloths and strong solvents, which can scratch or cloud the surface.
  • Metal plates and cups: wipe with a soft dry cloth. If needed, use a barely damp cloth and dry straight away.
  • Resin figures: dust with a soft brush or dry cloth, and wipe with a damp cloth if needed.
  • Timber: dust with a dry cloth, and avoid soaking or strong cleaners.

Looking after engraving

Laser engraving is permanent, but avoid scrubbing engraved areas with abrasive pads. A soft brush or cloth is enough to keep the lettering clear.

Storing perpetual trophies

  • Keep them in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Wrap them in soft cloth or a protective box when moving between presentations.
  • Keep a record of past winners separately.
