Honour boards explained

What honour boards are, what goes on them, and how to keep one up to date year after year.

What is an honour board?

An honour board is a permanent display that records the names of people who have achieved something at a club, school or community group: premiers, champions, captains, life members or award winners. It is usually mounted in a clubhouse, hall or foyer, so the history is always on show.

What goes on one

  • Club champions and best and fairest winners
  • Premiership teams or years
  • School captains, dux and major prize winners
  • Life members and long service members
  • Sponsors, by year

Plates that grow with your history

Most honour boards use engraved plates, one for each name or year, added as the record grows. Using consistent engraving for every plate keeps the board looking tidy over many years. See our honour boards and plaques and shields.

Planning one for your club

  1. Decide what the board will record, and how many names you expect over the next 10 years.
  2. Choose a size with room to grow, or one that can be extended.
  3. Send the list of past winners so they can be engraved at the start, then add each new name every year.
  4. Choose a wall location that people will actually see.
Questions

Quick answers

Can you add names to an existing honour board each year?+

Yes. Send us the details and we can engrave new plates to add to the board, depending on the style of board and plates.

Is an honour board better than a perpetual trophy?+

They suit different needs. A perpetual trophy is a physical award that moves between people, and an honour board is a permanent display. Many clubs use both.
